How I got there
High Speed Train from Valencia to Barcelona (320KM an hour), approx. 4 hours
Background of Barcelona
Is the Capital of the Catalonia region of Spain, located on the north eastern region of Spain. You can’t go to Barcelona without seeing the Architecture of Antoni Gaudí. He designed many buildings and the famous Sagrada Familia.(Cathedral)
Where I Stayed
Ibis Barcelona Centro (Sagrada Familia), €100 a night, great location across the road from the Sagrada Família
What I did
Sagrada Família
Is the largest unfinished Catholic Cathedral in the world, started construction in 1882 by the famous Architect Antoni Gaudí, they say it’s impossible to find a Cathedral like it in the world. It only got a building permit in 2019. (136 years late). They are targeting to finish the Cathedral by 2026. (100 years since the death of Gaudí). Climbed up the spire to the top and got a lift back down.
Gaudí worked on the Cathedral until he died in 1926.
Park Güell
Is a private park that Gaudí designed, lots of his mosaic artworks feature in the park, was really worth a visit, there is not a straight line in the park. Really good views of Barcelona from the park. More Photos below.
Casa Batlló
Is a house designed for a wealthy family in the early 1900’s and is considered to be one of his masterpieces. Mosaics feature throughout the house.
Tips
Make sure you book tickets in advanced for any attraction. I booked 2 weeks in advanced and struggled to get tickets for most attractions.
